“This is clearly the most common question I get. That is an adjusting instrument called an Activator. It is spring loaded for rapid delivery of a force to move one vertebra at a time and has some advantages (and disadvantages, too) compared to traditional manual techniques. This treatment sequence shows several distinct methods of correction, and I commonly combine them in the manner shown, although there are times that one single method may be more desirable on a given treatment session.”

domandcaro, I’m not sure which chiropractors you are referring to. I have known some who are skilled, and some who are not. I guess that is like any field. In my experience, sciatica should be an easy fix; headaches usually, too. If you are not getting the results you need, perhaps you could get a referral from someone who is happy with their care. i dont know why but these chiropractors dont give me confidence in them. i never felt like i was getting my moneys worth. always sceptical, i have a sciatica and headaches. no fun.

AuggieX1, I agree that if someone isn’t interested in receiving chiropractic then they should not feel obligated, but belief has nothing to do with it. I work with skeptics all the time; they respond just like my other patients do. It’s physiology, not superstition. I have, however, had patients who were unwilling to admit, or perhaps couldn’t recognize, what was happening, and some who found the changes to overwhelming to their belief systems. They found it easier to remain in pain or on meds.

sfcom (con’t), chiropractic is not only not the only answer for serious illness, in many illnesses it may be no answer at all. But 25 years of clinical practice shows me that in many illnesses, even serious ones, it can be very helpful, sometimes so much so that no other medication is required. Personally, I am no longer a militant anti-medic, since my ruptured appendix and peritonitis were resolved by surgery and drugs…humbling. Nonetheless, sick care and health care are two different things.

sfcom1, if you google “iatrogenic deaths + jama” you will find that statistic, published in the Journal of the American Medical Assoc. and supported by studies by the Institute of Medicine’s investigation into quality of health care in US. Sadly, these were preventable deaths caused by errors in treatment, misdiagnosis, improper medications, and incompetence. This does NOT account for adverse effects of the right medicine, which will occasionally kill very sick patients. And you’re right…

I just have to ask, where did you get this fact? Can you cite a source that proves that these deaths were a direct result of malpractice or improper care? While I do believe chiropractic care can help considerably with a number of ailments I don’t believe its the only answer especially for more serious illnesses.

the website jp5 refers to appears to be another front for attacking chiropractic through fear inducing disinformation, which also leads me to think jp5 is working for them. since the ama lost their suit bought against them by wilk, et al (chiropractors), surrogates have served the purpose of scaring the public away from their chief rival. on the site they mention pt’s and md’s as well as chiros, but their petition to force a disclaimer and warning is exlusively directed against chiropractors.
