Can you get a massage with a herniated disc?

I have a Herniated Disc and i was curious to know if a massage would make it sooth it or be bad for it?

In my opinion, you should go to a chiropractor or an orthopedic physician first. There are some massage modalities like "hilot" that does not prevent someone with a herniated disc to undergo this modality BUT generally, it is contraindicated in massage.

Hope this helps a little.

How do I get relief from a pinched nerve in my lower back?

I know what a Pinched Nerve is (sciatica), and I kno wthat I get it in the same spot at least once a year. It usually goes away, on its own, over a period of time, but is there a faster method to this madness?
Yes, I "know" I spelled "kno" incorrectly. Sorry guys. Please help me with the task at hand!
Thanks for all the good advice! The best thing was walking around, even though I REALLY didn’t want to do it.

i have Sciatica and the only way I can get some relieve when its acting out is to get off my feet and relax on my recliner with ice and heat therapy. First ice 30 minutes, heat 30 minutes etc. It helps a lot.

But when things get bad too often I know its time to get an appointment with my chiro / massage dude.

I’m assuming you already know for sure its sciatica because a doctor told you… if not have it check it out.

What do chiropractic students need to know most when they first get out of school – in order to be successful?

I have been in practice for over 7 years and I am working with some chiropractic students – I am wondering what opinions you may have about what it takes to be successful in Chiropractic?

I have strong opinions on this one… :)

First, I think it is essential that they understand the importance of their state and national professional associations. It won’t matter how good they are clinically, if there is no profession in which to practice and these associations are vital to the survival of the profession. They need to understand that BOTH are important — one to protect them on a national level and one to protect their state licensure and scope.

The second thing they need to do is sign up for a GOOD, ETHICAL coding/billing class as well as a GOOD ETHICAL Medicare class. One of the most glaring weaknesses I find in chiropractic education is the absence of these things.

In addition, these classes should include information on documentation… and the docs need to understand that not all seminars are created equally. Unfortunately, there are many people out there teaching mis- and dis-information — to the point of teaching fraudulent tactics. It is imperative that they stay away from these instructors. How do they do that? My advice would be to stay away from practice management seminars on these topics and stick with state and national association sponsored seminars.

I hope this helps. (It doesn’t help them clinically, but it sure will help keep them in practice and out of jail!)

What treatment works for Sciatica during pregnancy?

I am 19 weeks and have been diagnosed with Sciatica. I am in so much pain all the time. It doesn’t matter if I am sitting, standing or laying, I get no comfort. My doctor just keeps saying "Give it time, or it should go away on its own". Pregnancy is supposed to be enjoyable and I am in so much pain that I don’t want to be pregnant and I hate that I feel this way. Any suggestions?

Nothing really helped me. But just so you’re not out for a surprise later, pregnancy is supposed to "look" enjoyable. Wait until you get further along, and it will be more evident as everything will ache and hurt.
